Remote Extender

The remote extender uses wireless infrared technology to increase the range of your remote control signal.

A remote extender can be an extremely useful device so that you can control your electronic equipment, without having to even be in the same room.  They can be very useful for changing television channels, or adjusting your radio without having to be close to the device.  Normally a remote control requires that you be within a certain distance from the device, so that the signal can be transmitted successfully.  The problem is that they usually feature a very short transmission distance.  But you can increase your transmission range, and ensure that you can control every device in your home through the use of a remote extender.

Usually a remote extender will work by using a special IR signal converter, to change the signal into a more wide range radio wave.  This way you can convert any standard remote control, into a long range control to reach any device in your home.  This is extremely helpful if you listen to music, but the stereo is located in a different room than you.  With a remote extender, you can easily retain your control of the stereo, from practically anywhere in your home.  This means you’ll have the same great level of easy control, without needing to be close enough to your stereo for the signal to transfer.

They are also extremely helpful for television sets.  If you have a very large living room, or an entertainment stand set up in which the signal from your control doesn’t seem to go through very often, you may want to use a remote extender.  By using this you ensure your television receives a clear signal no matter how far away you are, or of any possible obstructions.  This is because a remote extender will greatly increase the range and depth of the IR signal already put out by your control. That then increases the likelihood that the signal will get to your television’s receiver.  That means you’ll have full control under practically any circumstance, which can be extremely convenient.

Although you’ll want to consider how large an area you’ll need the signal to reach, depending upon where you’re most likely to use your remote.  There are very small remote extender devices that will fit into your home and camouflage themselves so that they don’t stick out awkwardly from your other appliances.  But usually the smaller extenders don’t have the same range.  Make sure you always double check the IR signal capabilities before making any final remote extender purchase.  Otherwise you can end up with a device that still doesn’t get the job done.

You can find practically any type of remote extender you could need at a department store like Sears or Best Buy.  Typically they cost in the area of $70 to $80, depending upon the range that they feature.  But remember to check and ensure that any remote extender you buy is compatible with the control that you have.  Also make sure to buy from a top brand so that you can ensure the quality of the extender, that means buying from companies like Logitech, Audiovox, or StarTech.
